ABOUT COSTA RICA
Located in the center of Costa Rica, San José is the seat of national government, and the focal point of political and economic activity, and the major transportation hub.
San José is notable among Latin American cities for its high quality of life. According to studies on Latin America, San José is one of the safest cities and sixth-most visited destination in Latin and Central America. San Jose is home to cultural institutions like the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, and within driving distance to several volcanoes, beaches, coffee plantations and wildlife.
Although Costa Rica is small and it covers only 0.03 percent of the surface of the globe, it proudly shelters 5 percent of the existing biodiversity in the entire world. Twenty six percent of the country is composed of conservation and natural protected territory.
It is a popular tourist and conference destination. Costa Rica is a democratic and peaceful country and it has not had an army since the year 1948.
